These graduated sight-reading exercises are a teacher’s dream. They include at least 40 different exercises for EACH level from 1-8 for a total of 494 exercises! Your purchase buys the right to copy for each student in your own studio for years to come. (Reproduction of these exercises for use by other teachers or their students is expressly prohibited and constitutes a violation of United States Copyright Law.) You can recoup the cost of your investment with a nominal charge to your students for each level. A reference sheet showing the musical elements used in each level is included so that you can select the exercises to meet student needs and audition requirements. For example, Level 1A includes large print, single staff examples in C and G Major 5-finger patterns, quarter and half notes, seconds and thirds with key signatures 2/4, ¾, and 4/4. Level 8 has progressed to cover two hands, singles notes, intervals 2-8 and triads, a range of an octave, any Major or Minor key signature, rhythms from whole note/rest through sixteenth and dotted eighth, X/4 and 6/8 time signatures. Click for examples of Level 1b or Level 7.
In addition to use for sight-reading practice, the exercises can be used for transposition and even harmonization. The leveling parallels the Michigan Music Teachers Association Syllabus, but is of course applicable to any course of study. NOTE: Each copy of Sight-reading Exercises is reproduced especially for the purchaser and is personalized on each page. Therefore this product is not returnable. We will be happy to provide any additional information you may wish before your purchase, however. KUDOS FROM CUSTOMERS: "Sight-Reading Exercises, by Judith Wade, is a wonderfully versatile and thorough resource. . . . There are at least 42 separate 8-measure drills for each level, carefully prepared to utilize the requirements expected. . . . .without an excess of material to consider. Students learn careful attention to detail, which is constantly reinforced from one drill to the next. And the pieces are attractive and musical! They are a fine resource, as well, for all manner of transposition. The exercises have proven to be a great tool for use in judging auditions of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Their arrangement and careful attention to level make it easy to find the appropriate sight-reading piece for any level of Guild. Assessing the sight-reading skills and level of transfer students is another way in which these exercises have proven invaluable. . . ." Joan C. Haggard Certified Teacher Emeritus, MMTA "I began using the upper levels of Judy's sight
reading pieces and found them so helpful, I ordered the entire set. The
multi-key exercises are well-organized, with a variety of pieces in each
level. It used to be difficult finding more than one or two
sight-reading pieces that focused on what my students needed. Now I know
they're receiving the help they need to become good readers. These
materials are a must for teachers who are desirous of an aide to help
their students become proficient at reading new music." "Having used your book this past season with my private piano class of forty-two students of various levels of piano skills, I appreciate many aspects of this book:
I think you may be interested in some of the comments of my students regarding your book: "Where is that pink book
with the fun pieces?" "I like these pieces! Can I memorize some and
play them for my school talent show?" "These pieces are so beautiful!
Is the composer going to make them longer some day?" "I can transpose
these pieces to ALL the scales!" "I just flew thru the sight reading test! I
think I played everything perfectly!"
"I never realized sight reading could be so easy and
fun when I took lessons years ago!"
With this kind of excitement expressed by my pupils, I am inspired to expose each student to sight-reading at every lesson. How easy this can be done with your book! What a bonus for them and me!! Thank you!!" Isabelle Tulk, MI A product of JUDITH WADE |
